Korean War Part 2
In the
article Korean War by Choe Sang-Hun in Seoul it talks about North Korea threats
to launch a pre-emptive nuclear strike against South Korea and the U.S. in
Korea there was a war many years ago that resulted in the split of North Korea and
South Korea. And North Korea is very poor and South Korea being wealthier than
the North. Also when North and South Korea were at war the United States
supplied 90% of the troops. I think that North Korea feels like they want
revenge because the United States teamed up with South Korea and sent all the
troops to their country to win a war against them. Since that war South Korea
has been doing much better it’s the 12th richest country in the
world, but North Korea is doing very badly they
have been through starvation and labor camps. It seems like they have a
lot of anger toward South Korea and the U.S. so they probably feel like they should
take it out on some one. The leader of North Korea Kim Jong Un relays a message
with his American former NBA star Dennis Rodman Kim said, “I don’t want war.” If
he didn’t want war why would he threat the U.S and South Korea with nuclear
weapons. It seems like he is trying to just make it seem like he is not worried
about the U.S. so we can stop worrying about what is his next move. Also i think the new young leader is threating the U.S. is too look stronger to his people since he is new to the country.

Time for a raise
Blog:
Time for a raise
In the
article Time for a raise by Patricia Smith the main idea is basically that
Obama wants to raise minimum wage in the U.S to 9 dollars an hour and right now
it 7.25 an hour. Some people do not like the idea of the raise and some people
do. The reason people or companies do not like the raise in minimum wage is it
makes bosses at jobs have to either higher people or cut days off, the
employees will get shorter hours, and it forces them to give the other
employees raises depending on what their job is. The reasons people like the
idea of this are the more money people get the more money these people spend
which can also help the economy. Also people who don’t make that much money the
raises will be good for them because they have to pay bills and buy things that
they need, but in the same since a lot of people will not even be getting jobs
because if minimum wage is going up to 9 dollars places will not either be able
to hire you or the place just might not want to because that’s an extra person
they have to pay. In my opinion I think that this raising minimum wage to 9
dollars is not a very good Idea because a lot of people will not be getting
jobs and the goal is really for everyone to be employed if you can. I also
think it’s a bad Idea because people who do have jobs won’t get as many hours
because they have to pay a dollar and 75 cents more, and a lot of places don’t even
want to hire for minimum wage at 7 dollars and 25 cents. The raise would be
good for people who make minimum wage in a sense, but for most people it’s
really not a good or bad idea to me its neutral.

the dark comes to the light
Leroy Scott
We knew before how horrible life in the camps and ghettos was
Killing centers, labor camps, where prisoners manufactured war supplies
Pregnant women were forced to have abortions or their babies were killed after birth;
20 million people died or were imprisoned in the sites enslaved in five camps in five years
Women were coerced into having sex with German military personnel.
Dig trenches that were used for dumping the bodies of victims
SS officer murdered six Jewish children, poor children aged 6 to 12
The dogs barking in the night
This is my cemetery cruelty and slaughter of the camps
German soldiers shouting, "Dirty Jew."
I chose all these words because they reminded me of the book night that we had read in english class and this found poem shows how harshly treated all these jewish people were. The point the poem makes is that jewish people were treated very harshly during the war. It was harder than i thought it would be making a found poem. i looked up the holocaust and took lines and words from the article. i think it was pretty worth i look at like why not plus its school work.

Killing Elephants
In the article Slaughter of the African elephants by Samantha
Strindberg and Fiona Maisels it talks about how in Africa they are slaughtering
the wild life animals for humans own personal use, but in the article it mainly
talks about the killing of elephants for the tusk which makes ivory and it’s in
very high demand so the people who are murdering them most likely aren’t doing
it for nothing they’re taking the tusk and getting the money for them and these
people are called poachers. Even though elephants play a role like every animal
do elephants help breathing and the spreading of seeds to create trees when
using the bathroom in different places all over “tens of thousands of forest
elephants have been butchered over the past decade. A staggering 62 percent
vanished from central Africa between 2002 and 2011.” So out of 10,000 its
really only 3,800 left that is a lot of murdering of one animal for one thing
that belongs to the animal anyway. These poachers have animals scared to walk
down certain roads because they know if they do it is a chance of them being
slaughtered. Also just like humans I am pretty sure animals have feelings and
like their mothers and fathers and depend on them just like human children do
and to take away a child’s mother or father is very sad. With all the killing
of them there will be no elephants left and they will be talked about like
dinosaurs to us because they will go extinct and the children of the next
decades will never be able to see a elephant.

Harlem SHAKE
In the article Surprise
Hit Was a Shock for Artist Heard on it by James C McKinley Jr. it talks about
the man who made the hit song everyone is talking about all over and making
videos for. Harry Rodrigues is the one who made the song and is getting money for
it used other people’s voices in it without permission signed agreements or
anything he just used it, but probably never thought that he would be sued for
it. Now Hector Delgado and Jayson Musson are suing Rodrigues for it because he
didn’t give them anything out it or any credit. The Harlem Shake has been at
the top of the billboard 100pop chart for three weeks and sold about 800,000
digital downloads. That’s means he is making a good chunk of money and didn’t
give the two men anything. I think they feel like he could’ve at
least asked them for an approval or something, but to just take and use their
music they two men probably feel disrespected. Mr. Gomez the founder of Mad Decent says “Hector
will get what he deserves.” What he is saying is that they want what they
deserve they are saying they can just get lawyers and get them to stop the
broadcasting of the song because his voice is in it anyway. I think what he is
saying is he just wants his money otherwise they will just get the song stopped
completely. Is this the right thing to do? I think so because he should’ve got
consent from both men I don’t think Rodrigues was thinking at all.

sisters in arms
In the article Sisters in Arms by James Dao he talks about
for the most part women in the military and basically how women have evolved in
the military as time goes on. They started off as just helping the men in the
military from their homes like raising money and getting supplies. Then the women
started going deeper in to the military like helping in the medical field,
intelligence officers, military police, and a lot of other jobs. Now in the
year of 2013 they are lifting the ban on combat from women so now women are
going to be allowed to enlist in the army and go out the and fight like men do
and die like men do. Some people agree with women being in the army saying things
like it equality, the best person to do a job could be a women, and plus other
countries been let women fight in the army alongside men. The people who are
against women being in army say women are not strong enough and don’t have the mentality
to kill they’re just not ruthless. I don’t really like the whole idea of women
being in the army I think they should just leave it up to the men, but if that’s
what the women really want to do I guess its ok because when I think of women I
think of my mom and I would never want my mother in anybody’s army. In a sense it’s
good for American women to get the equal rights to be in the real army like
combat fighting like men that’s a good part about it.

Cyber Wars
In the article Cyber War by Patricia Smith it talks about
people all over the world like China, the U.S, and Iran and those being hacked
or doing the hacking from computers. China is trying to steal our Government secrets.
Also since we buy oil from Saudi Arabia the U.S. believes that Iran is
responsible for the cyber-attack on Saudi Aramco. I think all this cyber stuff
everyone is doing is very pointless because if the U.S. leaves China alone and
they just stick to buying there items I think everything will be ok, and the
same thing in Iran if everybody just lets everyone be the own independent
country I think the world would be a better place because 9/11 is over and the
U.S are still trying to kill people they think are terrorist, but probably
really have no idea and it is causing people in the U.S to lose people they
love because everyone wants to go to war and war leads to death. These cyber
wars could lead to real wars and that would be just since less killing. Every
time the U.S. does something to another country they either go to war or
attempt to attack back and that’s just making a lot of enemies for nothing. A quote
from the text states “There are lots of targets in the U.S. where they could do
the same thing. The attacks were intended to say: “If you mess with us, you can
expect retaliation.’” This quote that there is someone else thinking the same
thing because if you mess with someone they are going to want to retaliate not
just let it happen.

Sugar Wars
Leroy Scott
Blog:
Sugar wars
In the article Sugar Wars by Veronica Majerol she talks
about how when you buy sodas today like 2000’s it can be whatever ounce you
want like 42 OZ. or more, but back in the 20’s the most you could get was 6.5
ounces in a bottle. Today in New York the article says half of the adults in
New York are obese or over weight, and that could link to heart dieses. Philadelphia
and several California cities are talking about taxing there sugary drinks. I don’t
think they should do this because if people want to drink something they’re
going to drink it anyway, but it is a pretty smart idea. They Mayor who is
taking effect on this are New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and he is being
mocked by a beverage industry ad calling him a nanny. I believe they’re calling
him a nanny because usually old people try to tell you what to do and how to do
things and that is what he is doing trying to ban something from people who are
young and above age who are old enough to make their own decisions. A quote
from “If people want to drink 24 ounces, it’s their decision” I think this
quote makes since but it should just apply to people over 16 and over because
people really under that age don’t really have a decision if you’re old enough
to drive you should be old enough to make the decision whether you want to
drink soda or not.

Valentines Day
In the
article ‘historically incorrect canoodling’ it talks about how people are the
most romantic on valentine’s day and any other time everyone is just trying to
have sex hooking up at clubs. Also it talked about how back in the day like
before 1800 people married for a person’s wealth or they had arranged marriages
and today people marry for love, the marriages are freely chosen, and there are
a lot more divorces today. I think that not too long ago was really the best
marriages because people were really in love like the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s. It
was bad back in the day, but it got better and worse because people are still
just marrying for money and now everyone is just having sex. It’s ironic because
back in the day they thought it was a sin to have sex unless you were trying to
reproduce, you could not do it for pleasure. And in the article it says back
then a virgin woman was ranked the highest and that concept still exist in a
way today because virgin girls are hard to find these days and that’s really
what everyone wants most of the time. Nobody wants a girl everybody then had
already unless they are just trying to have sex. At least that my opinion on that topic. Valentines Day is the only day most people get romantic and go out with someone they love.

a right to jeer
In the article ‘A Right To Jeer’ by Alessandra Potenza it
talks about people at game specifically basketball and the people there making
comments in the stands and people making signs. In the article it says “Last February,
at a north Carolina state men’s basketball game against Florida State, two
former players seated in the stands Tom Gugliotta and Chris Corchiani, were
ejected from the arena for loudly and bitterly protesting the referee’s calls.”
It also said that some people in the stands said they didn’t use any threatening
words so in my opinion what could they possibly said to get these two men
kicked out of a game. I think they were probably saying he wasn’t doing his job
right and tell him he was making bad calls and he got irritated or offended and
told them he wanted them out, but in the first amendment it does say free of
speech so the two former players could really say whatever they wanted to. Also
in some universities they are saying that they don’t want signs to be put up at
games to me that’s just dumb because why can’t people put up signs it makes no
since it’s what a person is rooting for or what they believe that’s like saying
people can’t wear different jerseys to games to express what they like if a
person likes something or wants to do something the only person that should be
able to change those thing are you and god.

new face of america
In the
new face of America article it talks about basically black, white, Hispanic,
Asian, and others in America and how the face of America is changing. Before in
the 60’s America was 89% white and I think the reason is because every other
race couldn’t do what they wanted back then they did not have full freedom and
when other races besides white did something wrong specifically black they were
punished cruelly either they were killed or injured badly and no one was doing
anything to stop it so it was always going on, and I think that is definitely
part of the reason that there were more white people in America than anything
else. Now in 2011 there are only 63% white and I think the reason for this is
because blacks and other races started to really get their freedom and got all
their rights most of the time unless involving with white people because in the
earlier years after the 60’s it was getting better, but white people could
still do what they wanted when they wanted and if you were black you were wrong
no matter what the situation was. Overtime it got better and they stopped
killing off the blacks as much, but in the meantime the Hispanics were on the
rise Immigrating and they are the most up in coming race in America. If you ask
most people they would probably think there were more blacks than any other
race except white, but no that is the Hispanics.

Lance Armstrong
In the article Give Lance another chance it talks about how
a seven-time winner in bicycle tours was cheating the whole time and should he
be giving another chance. Frida Ghitis says, “His debt his atonement are not
limited to the cycling world or to sports. Armstrong still has a chance to
redeem himself.” I don’t think he should get another chance to redeem himself
and they should take all his trophies and everything because if he was cheating
to win the whole time why would he deserve a second chance plus the man cheated
seven times not once or twice seven times. Everyone in the article talks about
how they watched him for more than a decade looking up to him, but he was
cheating the whole time. But in the same since a lot of other people cheat to
in sports but just don’t get caught. I think they should just take everything
he have ever had or got from winning all those races because if he was cheating
he doesn’t deserve it. If they let him keep all his medals and all the things
he got I think that would be kind of stupid. Whoever came in second place in
all the races should get all those things that he did because in reality they’re
the ones who really one to me.

Syria Civil War
In the article Civil War Raises Questions about When to
Intervene it talks about whether the United States should intervene in the civil
war in Syria I think the united states shouldn’t intervene at all because they
have their own problems to deal with and to be worrying about someone else’s is
dumb its dumb because it’s like a saying how you going to fix someone else’s
house and your house is a mess and not fixed. I’m not saying it’s not good to
help people or anything because it’s always good to do that, but what if Syria starts
attacking us and was in another war that would be just foolish because the U.S
always finds their way into something. The U.S said they would intervene if
they use chemical weapons, but what would be the point of that if you are
killing someone a kill is a kill what does it matter whether it’s with a gun or
a chemical. I think the U.S is just saying that so they can just get in this
war because usually in war they use any and everything to kill the enemy a gun
a bomb whatever it takes so to me it sounds like they just want to be in it.
child depression
Leroy Scott
Child depression
In the article all work no play by Esther Entin it talks
about how if children don’t get enough free time they will depressed in their
older years. To me this sounds pretty dumb because what does a child not
playing have to do with their depression in their older years that makes no
since it could probably affect them in their younger years like the child being
mad they don’t get to play enough, but when you become a man or a woman usually
all that playing stuff comes to an end. But it is true in the article it says
in a subtitle play gives a child a chance to develop a connection with their
own self I think that this is true because when you are young you find out who
you are by interacting with other people and other children. It also says most
importantly, play is a source of happiness and I also think this is a true
statement because when you’re playing you are happy sometimes even when you’re
playing by yourself. I don’t think the loss of play will cause anxiety or
depression because I don’t think to any child not playing is the end of the
world. And if you don’t play a lot because your parents or whatever reason you are used to not playing but if you are
then most likely you play when you are allowed which is most of the time.

school district
Leroy Scott
The school district of Philadelphia is talking about closing some of the schools and to me it would be an alright idea. In the article it said the school district is changing the kindergarten through 5th or 6th grade to a kindergarten through 8th grade school. I think it’s a good and a bad idea to change because middle school and elementary should be separated. Also closing high schools might be a good thing because some high schools were not learning anything from the school kids acting crazy not listening to the teachers. Then the teachers stop caring and it would just be a bad environment. The school district is saying for the school kids who have the closing schools will be put into a equal or better school that would be a good thing but if that’s the case for some kids it will be the same thing just a different building because equal would mean the same thing. The reason they’re losing students to charter schools is because most of the public schools are not good so they would rather be in a better school with a future and kids want and need to go to college. In my opinion I think that the school district shutting down schools would be a good thing because there will be more money to do stuff.
