In the
article ‘Marijuana law just creates criminals’ the author Hakeem Jefferies
talks about marijuana and how it is affecting New York and also how 85% of the
people arrested are black and Latino. I think marijuana should just be legal
because everyone is going to smoke it anyway I’m not saying it’s right but I don’t
really think it’s a bad drug where as though you would have to get locked up
for it like in the article it says over 400,000 people were arrested for
marijuana in the last decade that’s just crazy. I don’t think you should be
allowed to smoke marijuana and drive that should be illegal because you could
get seriously hurt and so can other people around you. Also if you’re caught
with a lot of marijuana that should just be a fine not jail time. People make
it seem like it’s a big deal drug like cocaine or heroin. I also agree with the
article when it says it should either be a crime or not because you cant be in
the middle of a crime either you did it or didn’t.

Power Ball
Leroy Scott
The power
ball that has passed on Saturday no one has got the exact numbers 22-32-37-44-50 and the power ball was 34. The
amount given to the winner now is an estimate of 425 million which is the
largest ever in lottery history. The article states, “While millions of
Americans can have fun dreaming about how they'd spend the jackpot, the odds of
winning are 1 in 175,000,000, according to lottery officials.” Before
the power ball was only 365 million and it shot all the way up to 425 million. And
I agree because the chances of anybody winning is so highly unlikely you might
never win every time you play the power ball your taking a chance of losing however
much the ticket cost and not winning anything. In my opinion if I could play
the power ball I would whenever I had extra money and got the chance because to
me there is always a chance that you could win and sometime I feel like chosen
or something and to also get all that money just from a dollar or two dollar
ticket that’s nothing. Everyone should play.

16 year old driving
Leroy Scott
Teens
In
the article ‘Should 16-year-olds drive?’ by Ted Gregory the article talks about
kids driving at the age of 16 and is that too young. One quote says “were still
losing a lot of teens on the road each year,”
“Motor
vehicle crashes kill more than 5,000 teenagers every year.”
Motor vehicle crashes do kill a lot
of kids but to me if they take away their right to drive at 16 there are just
going to maybe be more accidents because usually kids don’t listen and when
they are teenagers they think they are adults and adults drive cars when they
feel like it. Also if they’re driving and cops happen to pull them over what
are the chances of the kids stopping if they know they are wrong and that
especially will create accidents? Another quote says, “I don’t think it matters
what age you are as long as you have the practice and experience.” I agree
quote because I always wanted to drive since I was younger and I was always
told you have to be 16. So that’s what I thought plus 16 are a good age to start
driving you’re almost out of high school and more mature. Also if you know the
book take the test and know how to drive why not have a license. To me I just
think 16 is the age you can get a tattoo drive you are almost an adult and
those type of things come with responsibility.

everything will be put to a stop
In the article “Curfew imposed on teens to combat crime in East St. Louis” an article written by KMOX, CBS St. Louis. This article is about children that live in EAST ST. LOUIS the talk is about kids loitering outside basically not going to school so the mayor Alvin Parks says if you’re on the street during school hours you will automatically be arrested, minors are to be off the street by ten o clock pm on weekends and weekdays, and the police will be performing I.D checks on street corners and they are doing gun searches. In the article it also says they plan to arrest men and young men who are wearing gang colors parks said “No royal blue, no bright red to be worn by our men or our boys in this community,” Parks said. He also said “Vehicles that are moving will be stopped and searched for guns, weapons, drugs, and open alcohol and any other violations that are taking place.” In my opinion I think all that you can’t wear this color or that color is dumb because if you want to wear red or blue you should be able to wear red or blue. And the other quote like vehicles will be stopped if moving and searched you cannot search any one’s car without a warrant so that will probably be put to a stop. Also I think it’s a good idea to get the kids off the street by 10 o’clock because things always happen to children after dark.

obama won and people have different opinions
Everyone had different opinions on the election of Obama for
a second term there were some people who thought that that he should’ve have
won, some who disagreed, and some people who didn’t care. The comments about
Romney and Obama were either they were happy Obama was president again, Romney
should have one he would do a better job like handling things or they didn’t
think he did a good job the first time. A quote from someone interviewed about
the election was “I knew Barack Obama was going to win. I think he’s more
trustworthy. He seems like more of a people person.” And another quote was “I
wouldn’t have voted for Romney on women’s issues alone.” I agree with the first
person I had no doubt that he was going to win because Romney was taking too
much away from the people it seemed to me that he was only looking out for
people who had money.” I also agree with the second quote too because the
things he was taking away things that would make a woman’s life harder than it
usually is like abortions and tampons things girls need to process and also go
on with life if they do not need a baby at the moment. I think Obama had every
right to win because when he got into office things were already messed up and
people were making it seem like everything that was happening was really his
fault and when he became the president a lot of things were already messed up.

Climate Change by Nicholas D. Kristof
Leroy
Scott
Climate changes
Nicholas Christoff wrote an article
called “Will climate change get some respect now?” in this article Christoff talks
about how the climate is changing drastically everywhere like there are bad
storms hurricanes, floods, and more. Like for example hurricane sandy there was
a debate and nothing was said about the hurricane and that’s what really
matters because the people of America are the ones being affected by this. In this
quote “Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York says he told president Obama the other day
it seems we have a hundred year flood every two years now” in this quote I think
the governor is saying that there needs to be action taking if were having the
floods way more often than usual ans someone needs to step up. People are
losing homes their cars are being destroyed and no one is saying anything about
it. Mainly the politicians and that’s what Christoff is talking about all these
things are happening to these people and nothing is being said or done. In my
opinion I think Christoff is right about everything he is saying the
politicians should be talking about the hurricane and maybe how they are going
to help the people who need the help get through this. If I was affected by the
storm in a huge way I would feel comfortable knowing someone cares like the
people who are in charge of this country but if they were not saying anything
about it I would start to feel worried.

attention disorder
Leroy
Scott
Blog
#4 Attention disorder or not
Studies
by Dr. Michael Anderson talks about how people with A.D.D (Attention deficient
disorder) and A.D.H.D (Attention deficient hyper activity disorder) usually don’t
do well in school and he gives them medicine called Adderall to help. What these
pills are doing to the young students in elementary is boosting their focus and
gives them impulse control. A quote from
a mother who gives her children this medicine is “she can’t thank Dr. Anderson
enough for diagnosing A.D.H.D in her children.” A side effect that is rare is the medicine is that people hear and see
things which may cause very serious problems like in the article the boy who is
10 was in school and hearing things like people talking about his mother so
that cause the boy to fight. In my opinion despite the side effect in the
medicine Adderall I think if it’s helping kids do better in school and do
better at home such as listening to teachers or parents and doing what’s told
to do by parent or teachers.

Everybody wants a goodnight sleep but people like to stay up
Everybody wants
a goodnight sleep but people like to stay up
Using Ipads before bed ‘can lead to
a poor night’s sleep by Stephen Adams tells how using Ipads or tablets before
you go to sleep will not help you go to sleep or get a goodnights sleep
according to the text “Researchers are warning that the blueish light
their screens emit can stop users getting a good night’s sleep. That is because
this type of light mimics daylight, convincing the brain that it is still
daytime.” So what they are saying is no
one should really use those things before you go to sleep if you have school or
work the next morning because you will most likely be tired because you will
not have the right amount of sleep. They are saying the ultimate solution is to
just turn off the devices at night. In my opinion I think if you know you won’t
get up in the morning because you are staying up too late on the Ipad don’t use
it, but all the talk about the blue light makes since but then again I use my
ipad before I go to sleep and I have school the next day. I never have a hard
time going to sleep, and I never heard of that before this article.
